Start
After downloading the app, follow the prompt to open a current account – choose Everyday banking.
It will say it will do a credit check. Don’t worry too much if you don’t have any credit history. It shouldn’t cause any issues
After filling in the details as required, including putting in your nationality, occupation and income (I put 0 pounds and still got the account, as I was unemployed)
Confirmation of address
After putting in your details, it will confirm that the address you put is indeed where you are. They do this in two ways:
- Use your phone GPS to confirm that you are at the post code you put in.
- They will send a letter containing a six-digit pin to this address
Log out now and wait for the pin to come in the post.
Activate the account
After 3 days, you will get the pin in the post. Open the app and insert the pin.
After putting in the pin, you will be confirmed for an account and receive an account number.
Your card and pin
Your debit card will be sent in the mail within 5 working days, then the pin will come in a separate mail after about 3 days.
Voila!
PS: I would like to believe you can open an account with the major players like HSBC, Santander, NatWest etc just like this from the comfort of your home. This is possible due to the pandemic.
